There’s plenty of incredible Castles around the south of England and if you’re thinking about celebrating your wedding surrounded by historic grandeur then you should definitely go visit two or three before making your final decision. I love to shoot castle weddings. There’s always so much to play with plus the gardens are ALWAYS well designed and full of so much variety and colour any time of year.
Here’s my top SIX castle wedding venues in the south of England…
1. Hever Castle
“A double-moated 14th century castle, once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I. It boasts over 600 years of history and is still stunning and perfectly preserved to this day.”
The gardens are so well tended and the variety of plants and flowers will literally blow your mind. I have so many beautiful wedding galleries from this venue so do get in touch if you’d like to see a few for inspiration. I could probably match your time of year too so you can get a real feel for the types of flowers at at that time.
“Kent’s Allington Castle is a medieval 12th-century castle nestled in 42 acres of picturesque woodland on the banks of the Medway River, located about three miles northwest of Maidstone. Among the many grand spaces within the castle is the Great Hall, where Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn dined with Sir Thomas Wyatt around 1530.”
This castle is breathtakingly stunning. There’s the most gorgeous drive up to it as well where the road is pretty much level with the swan lakes either side. There’s just so many opportunities for photoshoots inside and out. Definitely worth adding to your venue visit list.
“Secluded away within 70 acres of picturesque scenery, Horsley Towers is an exclusive wedding venue located in East Horsley, Surrey. Set amidst acres of Surrey parkland, De Vere Horsley Estate has history and heritage at every turn. Designed and built in 1820 by Sir Charles Barry; the architect of the Houses of Parliament, the house was later the seat of the Lovelace family who enhanced it with the bold architectural features that can still be seen throughout.”
This is owned by the same De Vere’s that own all the Grand Hotels across the country. So not only is is a perfectly preserved castle wedding venue but also an incredibly luxurious 5 star hotel.
4. Leeds Castle
“Breathtaking by design and hostess to royalty, nobility, and glamorous guests for over 900 years, Leeds Castle rises majestically from the water in the stunning Kentish countryside near Maidstone. An enchanting, historic and lavish wedding destination in the Garden of England, the truly perfect backdrop for your ceremony and reception.”
“This majestic Norman Castle stands in the heart of its ancient ramparts and medieval parkland, which have evolved into beautiful landscaped gardens. Privately owned by the Lindsay family, descendants of the Earls of Oxford who built it, Hedingham Castle is a romantic, unique and timeless haven, with a significant history spanning 900 years that is the heritage of us all.”
